Second Harvest of the Big Bend

Most everyone has probably heard of Second Harvest at some point or another. How could you not? They have their giving hands in almost every project relating to food around the country. Just in the Big Bend alone 44,000 people a month are fed because of the efforts of Second Harvest.  Most residents are aware that Second Harvest is a food bank and helps feed the community. However, many do not know the efforts behind the scene and all of the side programs Second Harvest of the Big Bend offers.

In this blog I am going to take go straight to the point with facts and figures of Second Harvest of the Big Bend. If you would like to read more about the nitty and gritty please continue to their website. http://www.fightinghunger.org/

Food Bank Operations-

The food bank operation is the heart and soul of Second Harvest.  They collect, store, and distribute 5.5 million pounds of food annually! First, the food is donated or acquired by Second Harvest. Then the food is distributed to more than 135 partner agencies; these agencies give the food to those directly in need of it.

Brown Bags for Seniors-

This generous program provides grocery items for more than 430 elderly in our community!  The seniors that receive this service are either on a fixed-income or impoverished.

Child Nutrition Program-

1 in 4 children in the Big Bend struggle with hunger daily.  Second Harvest strives to keep working as hard as they can until the day that no child in the Big Bend goes a day without food hungry.

Backpack Program-

This service provides 350 bags of food weekly to children in school so they will have food for the weekend. This allows the children to worry less about where their next meal will come from and more about staying in school and doing their homework.

 Summer Food Program-

The summer can be a hard time for a child if you don’t know where your next meal is coming from. That is why Second Harvest of the Big Bend supplies 6,216 meals and snack to children in the summer months.

Second Harvest of the Big Bend supplies incredible amounts of food to the counties it services. However, they can’t do it alone! As of right now only 7% of the food comes from food drives. Kia Autosport is determined to drive that number up! This is our community and it’s our turn to give back too.

Throughout the month of February we will be collecting food and monetary donations to be gifted to Second Harvest of the Big Bend! Look out for our Facebook page because we will have weekly specials and promotions benefiting Second Harvest and you! On February 23rd we will have a BBQ here as one last push to collect the most food possible. At the BBQ we will have contests, prizes, and a big give away!

We can’t do it alone though! Clean out your cabinets and if it’s been there for over a year and you still haven’t eaten it, you probably won’t eat it.  So give it to those in need!  But check the expiration date first J

Getting Ready for the 4th of July!

I hope everyone follows us on facebook. If for no other reason than to see the hillarious pictures we post of our sales managers in various costumes.

Here is an example:

I ordered the costumes for the 4th of July alittle early this year, so by doing so we had more time to put them to good use. What good use, you may ask?

A TV COMMERCIAL! Here is alittle preview:

We always get great feedback from our commercials, and we hope ya'll will love it! Of course, the most important part of our commercials are the deals and sales, so we are excited to announce some great specials and sales for the month of July. I can not believe how fast this summer is going, so we want to make sure all of our blog, facebook, and twitter followers are getting the most out of it as well!

Happy Summer & Let us know what you think about the July commercial!

The 2011 Kia Optima is here!!!!

Talk about a change...the 2011 Kia Optima has quickly become one of our favorite vehicles around the dealership. For those who have driven it, no one can deny the amount of horse power this model pocesses. I found a review in the LA Times, and I do not know if I agree with their assessment of the seat cushions, but I wanted to share a review.

Stay tuned for next week, there will be a guest blogger who shares their experience with the 2011 Kia Optima.

Kia Autosport Supports The Fight Against Breast Cancer

In 2009, an estimated 192,370 women in the United States were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and about 40,610 women were expected to die from the disease.

Breast Cancer is a disease that Kia Autosport is dedicated to fighting. We, as a family, are showing our support in several ways. I urge all of our dedicated readers to take a second and join us however you can.

All of our employees are wearing pink ribbons in an effort to show our support in the smallest way, but we know there is so much more we are capable of doing...

For the entire month of October, Kia Autosport will donate $50.00 to the American Cancer Society for every new or used Kia sold. Our goal is to sell 100 cars and write a check for $5,000! Melanie has informed me that when we make that goal, we will DOUBLE the amount. LETS MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

We are partnering with Cumulus Broadcasting all month to fight breast cancer. We are hosting an event on October 23rd that we hope to see everyone at! I'll blog again with more details on how to get involved, so i hope to see all of our family members there. Rumor has it, we'll have some goodies to give away!

Breast Cancer has effected all of us in some way, so for that reason, Kia Autosport knows just how important this fight is. We'd love to see ya'll help too!

And remember, breast cancer does not just affect women; In 2009, about 1,910 men in the United States were diagnosed with breast cancer. If this is not a worthy cause, I do not know what is!

The Newest Member of the KIA AutoSport Family.

Little Soul is the newest member of our family here at KIA AutoSport. Little Soul is a hamster with some attitude just like the newest addition to our product line up the all new 2010 KIA Soul.

If you have seen the new KIA ad on television you can understand why we felt compelled to make this addition to our family. Visit the YouTube link on our website to check out the ad if you haven't seen the head bobbing hamsters.

Little Soul lives in a very stylish habitat in our showroom. In addition to his habitat we also have a hamster track where you will often find him speeding around on in his yellow hamster vehicle for some exercise. You can often find Little Soul speeding around the office in his vehicle.

We invite everyone to visit Little Soul while visiting our dealership. Little Soul will be here like we are 7 days a week!

KIA AutoSport Employee Softball Game Sunday May 17th

KIA AutoSport Employees are getting ready for the big game this Sunday May 17th. The Parts and Service All Stars will take on the Sales Department Stankey Legs in our first ever employee softball game. Employees from both teams have been optimistic about a win.

The Parts and Service All Stars will be lead by long time Softball and Baseball Player Doug Hughes our Parts Manager. Doug feels extremely confident with his leadership he can pull his team to victory. Playing for the Parts and Service All Stars will be; Doug Hughes Parts Manager, Co-Captain Kelly Facer Service Manager, Ron Angelotti, Adam Perry, Danny Campbell, Brandon Thomas, Doug "Fresh" Cook, Daniel McKeithen, Dwayne Griffin, and John Wayne Cassidy. Doug said today, "We are playing with the right attitude and we are not afraid of the competition. They all eat too much and are out of shape."

The Sales Stankey Legs will be lead by the main man himself, Mr. Monroe Lee. The Sales team completed 2 team practices in the past weeks and have made steady progress. The team captains have stated that the All Stars are coming into this game underestimating the strength, skill and speed of the Stankey Leg's. Playing for the Stankey Leg's will be; Melanie Lee, Omar George, Nicky Jones, John Cray, Steven Clemens, Mike "Boom" Champion, Ron "Stankey Leg" Murray, Kristin Sirmon, Kenroy Johnson, Katrina McAphin, and Colleen Harp. Kelly Facer from the Parts and Service All Stars attended the Stankey Legs team practice Saturday evening. After witnessing the Stankey Leg practice Kelly admitted to Melanie that he was a little more concerned than he and Doug were letting on.

Also joining in will be the Stankey Leg cheer squad lead by Susan Schrier. Joining the cheer squad will be Sharon Davis, Christa McCarthy and our newest cheerleader Ella McCarthy. They have prepared a wonderful array of theme music that is sure to entertain everyone in attendance.

We inivite anyone who would like to attend and watch as these bitter work rivals take it out on the field.

Stankey Leg's vs. Parts and Service All Stars Sunday May 17th at Messer Field. We hope to begin around 5:30 pm and no later than 6 pm depending on how business is on Sunday afternoon.
